Mr. Wismar attended San Francisco State University, receiving his
Bachelor of Arts degree in European History in 1976. After working
for the U.S. Department of Labor – Office of Workers’ Compensation
Programs, Mr. Wismar attended the University of The Pacific – McGeorge School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in
May of 1980. Following admission to the California and Federal Bar,
Steve joined the firm of Rose, Klein and Marias in December of 1980 where he practiced in the areas of Social Security law and
employee representation under the California Workers Compensation
and Federal Longshore and Harbor Workers Acts.
Mr. Wismar became a member of the
defense bar in 1984 when he joined the San Diego law firm of
England & Greenberg. As a subsequent partner in the Law Offices of
Jones, Wismar and Ball, and Wismar & Barber, Steve has represented
numerous insurance carriers, corporation employers and public
entities in workers’ compensation, subrogation, disability
retirement and other employment-related matters before the Superior
Court, Workers Compensation Appeals Board, Office of Administrative
Hearings and Appeals and California Labor Commission.
Mr. Wismar was appointed a Judge Pro
Tem by the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board in 1985, certified as
a Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law by the State Bar of
California in 1993 and has served as an expert witness in Workers
Compensation litigation before the Superior Court on multiple
occasions.
Steve and his wife Deborah, a seventh
grade math teacher, will celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary in
2014 with children Brian and Kate; and enjoy travel, sports and good
times with friends. Steve also enjoys golf when he can scare up a
foursome of equally inept players.
